Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier

Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier. With a title that extensive, you know it has to good. I ended up picking this up after watching Lester play during finals week and was mesmerized by its combo system. Little did I know that I’d end up getting sucked into what is called the Endless Frontier.

Now before I go on, I must show you the comparison between the covers for both the U.S. and Japanese release. What does the Japanese release have more of that the U.S. release lacks?

Boobies! Lots and lots of boobies. And my, are there a lot of boobies in this game. It really does not disappoint.

Your main cast of characters include Haken Browning, a smooth-talking bounty hunter, Aschen Brodel, a combat android that shows a different side of her when in “Party Girl mode,” Kaguya Nanbu, a giant sword-wielding princess with even more giant boobs, and Suzuka, the flat-chested oni princess. Some other characters that make a crossover appearance are Reiji Arisu and Xiaomu of Namco x Capcom and KOS-MOS of Xenosaga fame.

Some of you may even recognize the voices of the characters as Atlus decided to keep the original voices. For instance, Haken’s voice actor is Nobuyuki Hiyama. Haven’t heard of him? You might know him as Shiro Amada from Mobile Suit Gundam: the 08th MS Team, or Viral/Old Coco from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Better yet, he’s the yelling voice of Link of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Heck yeah!

Gameplay is really easy to pick up! Yeah, there’s a lot of Haken walking around the different worlds, and even more dialogue between a massive amount of characters, but what I found the most enjoyable were battles.

Here’s the trailer from Atlus USA:

Sure, the game’s turn-based, but your main objective is to combo the hell out of your opponent. That’s right: attack after attack. You can check out footage of it in the trailer. Based on the timing of hitting the attack button and the order of which you put your skills in, you can create some massive deadly combos. Juggle them as much as you can so you can get as many hits in to your opponent and so you can avoid them doing a forced evasion, which renders your attack useless and can possibly screw you over depending on how strong their attack is. Your attacks also fill up the Frontier Gauge and, when filled, a character can use their Overdrive attack. Keep in mind that once they use their Overdrive, the gauge goes back to 0%.

Using items use up your COM gauge, which affects how many attacks you can do in a turn, which using Spirit skills use up your SP. You can always use items to up your COM guage and your SP, so you can strategize however you want with that.

You can do chain attacks with other members based on the character queue, possibly racking up a huge consecutive hit score in the process. Later on in the game, you can also use other characters alongside their support attacks. They come in handy especially when trying to snag what little HP your opponent has left after combo-ing the crap out of it.

I’ll warn you now: this game has a lot of boss battles. I’m not joking around when I say that, either. There are lots of them, and they’re very time-consuming. Even though some bosses took me ages to beat, they helped me configure different strategies for my characters for other battles to come. Plus, the in-battle graphics of the characters were amazing! Just a note: there are a lot of female characters in this game and even more boobie-bouncing in the animation sequences.

I started playing right after my last final ended. 10 days later with 30-ish hours invested, the game was beat. Did I enjoy it? Heck yeah, I did!

This game gives you all the tools you need to kick some butt. It’s up to you as to how you want to utilize those tools for effective ass-kicking.

I agree the game was so kickass. And yes, there -were- alot of boobies. I also love the way the battle system worked. It was fun.My favorite team had to be KOS-MOS, Xiaomu, Aschen, and Kaguya. :) The boss battles are SOOO long. Take a normal battle and exaggerate it by like 10x =_=.I think i’m close to the end but i’m not sure lol. I just beat Katze in Formido Heim.:D

You’re getting close! :) I’d like to say the majority of my hours were not from exploring, but rather from boss battles, especially with the Nacht and Abend. Eech, those robots can sure take a beating. -_-;;I got by with Haken, Suzuka, Kaguya, and KOS-MOS, although I did like to change it up and use different people from time to time. I really wanted to use Reiji, but for some reason, enemies really liked to gang up on him and kill him off first, lol. I ended up just using him for support instead.

Yeah I really hated the dual boss battles especially with the Nacht and the Abend since they auto-recovered =_=;; I used Suzuka/Haken/Xiaomu/KOS-MOS only when I was near a source of HP/SP replenishment because I could use Suzuka’s +exp gain and Haken’s +money gain haha.I somehow managed to get a Hero’s Mark and 3 Steel Souls x_x.I had the same problem with Reiji! He was really strong but died so quickly. My guess is that W00 is Haken or that blue fighter thing lol. I’ll have to see.:D

@Lene-chan: Do u mind a cross-posted reply to share the blog love? ^_~Haha, “bug bash”. Yeah, wasn’t too bad. Although “fun” isn’t necessarily the first thought that comes to mind when discovering application defects in the post-development stage, lol… Past couple days? Just days? Haha, ohhh, u should check out my Blog 199 since your “blog roommates” are mentioned a bit, and Blog 192 references to your “Nadesico” post. In fact, I think your last comments appeared in Blog 187, discussing “Police Story” and “Gekigangar”, lol. Wow, Blog 187 minus Blog 204 equals 17 whole weeks away!xJAYMANx’s last blog post..Blog 204 > Sankaku-Shikaku Otakulypse

@Jay: lol, okay, days, weeks…time flies by way too quickly T___T How in the heck is it June already?! GAH. SUCH A LONG TIME T____TAt least I have more weeks to roam around the blogosphere! I went back and checked up on the previous posts! I did see them on Facebook a while back but didn’t get a chance to fully read up on them. So I ended up sharing a bedroom with both Coco and Mimi? WOO HOO. Anddddd, I’m glad you got to check up on Nadesico! YOU GET TO BURNING~~~

@Lene-chan: Hahaha, r u sure you’re not taking a time-machine into the wrong direction? (Forward?)… Aww, thanx for catching up! Haha, roomies with Coco-chan and Mimi-chan! So tell the truth, who snored louder? Did Mimi-chan rant against “K-On” in her sleep again? LOL. Hey, what? Burning? Ohhh, I had to look it up. The theme song, lol. ^o^xJAYMANx’s last blog post..Blog 204 > Sankaku-Shikaku Otakulypse

  7. Lene 2009/06/09 at 4:25 AM #

@Jay: hahaha! I don’t snore, but I do have a terrible habit of drooling ;_; I think it might be because I used to have braces and before I had them, I never really drooled.Although, I think I do snore when I’m reallllly tired; I’ve heard from others I either snore or breathe heavily 8D ahahaha. Also, not too sure if I could hear Mimi ranting in her sleep! It actually takes me a lot to wake me up, as one alarm doesn’t do the job. I need like, 5 alarms going off at different times to get me to get out of bed ;x

  8. xJAYMANx 2009/06/09 at 8:56 PM #

@Lene-chan: LOL, drooling! So sexy! Okay, maybe not so much, lol. But that’s why I sleep on my back. Or try to. Hey, don’t tell me u sleep with a towel over your pillow, do u? LOL! Wait-wait, drooling or not, exhausted or not, first u *don’t* snore, then u *do* snore. Which is it? Bahhh, I don’t envy whomever happens to be your roommate! >o<;xJAYMANx’s last blog post..Blog 205 > Crows, Castles & Chaos Ahead

  9. Lene 2009/06/10 at 5:16 AM #

@Jay: XD It depends on how tired I am! If I’m downright exhausted, I breath a bit heavily…a slight possibility that I might snore. Probability is higher that I drool rather than snore, though :D ;;;If anything, let me have my own bed 8D

  10. Yuuichi-kun 2009/06/10 at 6:28 AM #

I picked up this game per your recommendation and am loving it! I don’t get to play very often because of work, but I put in at least an hour or 2 before I go to bed every night ^^ Currently, my favorite character is KOS-MOS, but Suzuka is so useful once she gets Cheer, and I try to have her in all my boss battles to max out my exp and Haken for Luck to max out my cash XD Just got the Gespenst and hoping for more fun and bouncy as I push through the story!Yuuichi-kun’s last blog post..No more teasing!

  11. Lene 2009/06/10 at 5:25 PM #

@Yuuichi: Yay! Once support attacks came into play, I had so much fun pulling off chains! KOS-MOS’ overdrive attack is so pretty, too.I’m glad you’re having fun with the game, though. Here’s to more bouncy!

  12. Sorrow 2009/06/10 at 6:49 PM #

Oh wow I finished it..finally after all those.. battles. This game was pretty good :) . I’m glad I wasn’t the only one playing.I played for a bit with New Game+ and it’s pretty overpowered. You get to keep like EVERYTHING o_o.But i’m not playing through that again since I already beat that optional boss :o :D

  13. Ren 2009/06/25 at 1:34 AM #

How do you:a) Chain Attackb) Support Attack Cuz i kicked some boss asses without knowing that we could even Do this… ^_^ Must be to pro for them Thanks

  14. Lene 2009/06/25 at 4:40 AM #

You can use a chain attack before your current character’s turn is over by pressing right on the d-pad. Support attacks come into play after you get Reiji and Xiaomu which you can summon extra characters in your party by pressing left on the d-pad. You can keep your combo going if you execute these at the right time.Hope this helps!
